The Reception

Filed under: Wedding — harpo @ 5:11 pm

Booking the reception venue is one of the first things that you should do after announcing your engagement. There are many types of venue to choose from in a variety of settings, including barns, stately homes, baronial halls, hotels and restaurants. And of course if you have a large enough outdoor area at your disposal you can host your reception in a marquee. write Dream star Coordinator of Hawaii wedding guide

As you choose your venue you will need to consider what type of reception to have. You may want a formal sit-down meal, a buffet, drinks and canapés, a barbecue, or simply afternoon tea.

As many of your guests will travel considerable distances to be with you, it is important that you feed them properly. You may find that the number of guests that you invite to your wedding is reflected by the kind of reception that you are able to offer them. http://www.probloggerwedding.com/

The toastmaster

A toastmaster can be of great help, particularly at larger weddings, introducing the guests to the receiving line, announcing that dinner is served, calling for silence for the minister to say grace, and introducing the speeches and the cutting of the cake.

A professional toastmaster will be familiar with the necessary protocol for a formal occasion and with his projected voice he can get the attention of your guests quickly.

If you decide not to employ the services of a toastmaster, the role can be assumed by the best man.

The receiving line

A receiving line provides an opportunity for the bride and groom, the couple’s parents and the attendants to ensure that they have spoken to all of the guests, (albeit for just a few seconds!). Traditionally the receiving line is arranged as follows:

The reveiving line

If your wedding is to be a less formal occasion, you and your partner may prefer to welcome the guests on your own.

The wedding breakfast

Having a seating plan can make life a lot easier for the guests and you may find it useful to be able to control who sits next to who.

Even if you are not having a formal meal make sure that there are enough chairs, so that all of your guests can sit down if they want to.

At a sit-down meal the members of the bridal party usually occupy a ‘top table’, and are customarily seated like this:

The top table

This seating arrangement can be altered if necessary, although it is usual to keep couples apart, with the exception of the bride and groom.

Speeches, Toasts and Cutting the Cake

Your guests will enjoy and remember the speeches if they are brief, concise and earnest.

* The first speech is usually made by the bride’s father, and he proposes a toast to the health of the bride and groom.
* Some brides like to make a speech at this point.
* The bridegroom responds to the toast made by his father-in-law and thanks the bride’s parents for organising the wedding. He thanks the guests for their gifts, before proposing a toast to the attendants.
* The final speech is made by the best man, who replies to the groom’s toast on behalf of the attendants. The best man may also read out cards, faxes and email messages, although this is sometimes left to the toastmaster.

It is at this point that the bridegroom leads his wife to the wedding cake, places his hand over hers and together they make the first cut of the cake. It is then taken away by the caterer to be sliced for the guests.

Some couples decide to cut the cake before the speeches so that the caterer has a bit more time.

It is customary to send a slice of the cake to those friends and relatives who were unable to attend the wedding. Specially designed boxes are available for this purpose.

Departure of the newly-weds

The bride and groom are usually the first to leave the reception, and their departure is announced by the best man. The bride turns her back on the assembled guests and tosses her bouquet over her head. Tradition has it that the girl that catches it will be next to marry.

The state flower that represents Hawaii as its official floral emblem is the Yellow Hibiscus which is scientifically called as Hibiscus brackenridgei. In Hawaii, the Yellow Hibiscus is known as the ‘pua aloalo’. The flower Hibiscus and all of its available colors was adopted as the official Territorial Flower of Hawaii during the early 1920’s. It was not until the year 1988 when the Yellow Hibiscus was legally adopted under a state legislature as the official state flower of Hawaii.

It is originally considered that there are five species of Hibiscus indigenous to the islands of Hawaii. The flower was believed to have originated in the islands found in the Pacific and certain regions of Asia as well. Other varieties of Hibiscus were subsequently imported. Sizes and variety of colors found among the many species of today’s Hibiscus flowers are due to the development of unique crossbreeding methods that produces hybrids among these specific flowering plants.

In addition to the official state flower of Hawaii which is the Yellow Hibiscus or Hibiscus brackenridgei, each of the island found in Hawaii its own official flower designated to them.

Winter Wedding in Hawaii

Filed under: Wedding — harpo @ 11:25 am

The love you share warms your heart and heats your soul, so there could be no more perfect time to plan your fantasy wedding than during the season when nature blankets us in wedding white and decorates each branch with a sparkling crystal-like icicle.  Add a few strategically placed twinkling lights and you have a winter wedding fantasy that will leave your guests breathless!, so the story goes for the cold snowy winter wedding though it doesnt have to be that way!!!.
Destination weddings is all the rage now for couples so why not go somewhere where its summer every day like Hawaii.
Here are some site to look at for a tropical destination wedding  Oahu wedding and Kauai Weddings

If you decide to have a winter wedding theme in a cold and snowy land than here is some advise for you.
A formal wedding usually the option for the winter, since the season lends itself to luxurious fabrics and will allow you to wear a heavier gown.  Veer away from the typical and choose a gown trimmed at the collar and cuffs with a rich looking faux fur or choose a heavy, renaissance style gown with a beautiful velvet bodice and brocade skirt.  If you are looking for something less traditional, consider having your gown embroidered in sparkling silver.
Look again at heavier, richer fabrics when considering bridesmaid gowns.  A deep, black velvet makes not only the perfect choice but also a beautiful backdrop for a bouquet of winter white flowers adorned with crystals and silver beads.  You could also go with an all white theme for your winter wedding, adding touches of silver and crystals on the bridesmaid gowns, then choosing a traditional red rose as the focal point of their bouquets.  A traditional black tuxedo compliments the look, and you can add silver vests or cummerbunds.  For a contemporary look, dress your groomsmen in black with a black shirt and a rich silk silver tie.
Your winter wedding décor should highlight the color and the sparkle of the season.  For something different in centerpieces, choose a multi-faceted cut crystal vase filled with fluffy white plumes and bare branches sprayed in a glistening silver paint.  Dangle hanging crystals from the branches, and generously sprinkle crystals on the table covers.  Keep with the winter white theme and use white linens on the tables, or use white linens on the table and a luxurious silver overlay on top to add the sparkle of winter to your look.
Decorate where you can with white twinkle lights, which add an air of fantasy to any décor.  For a winter wonderland, though, they are almost a must have item.  If your budget allows, bring in large clusters of branches, spray painted in white and generously glittered or spray painted silver.  Group the branches in large pots scattered throughout your reception site, and from the branches, hang large crystal pendants.  When the branches are decorated with the white twinkle lights, the crystals will pick up the light and add a beautiful glow to your room.
If you are going with an opulent, elegant affair, a sit down dinner is probably the best way to go, and you should consider top of the line entrees, like filet mignon, broiled lobster tails, or roast leg of lamb.  For a meal that is lighter on your budget, dress up less expensive items like London broil with a delicious hunter sauce or Cornish game hens with a sweet and succulent apricot glaze.  Appetizers should feature mostly hot items, since guests will be coming in from the cold winter evening to attend your event, but a chilled seafood bar is always a welcome site no matter what the season.
Your wedding cake could be a beautiful winter white confection, adorned with touches of the silver and dripping with crystal icicles.  You could do your cake – or a grooms’ cake – in the
